This Privacy Policy explains how Varibits AS (“Varibits”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects your personal data when you visit varibits.com or place an order with us. We are the data controller for the processing described here.

1. What we collect
- Account & order data: name, billing/shipping address, email, phone and order history.
- Payment data: handled by our payment providers; we do not store full card numbers.
- Sign-in data: if you sign in with Microsoft or Google, we receive your name and email from that provider to create or match your account.
- Communications: messages you send us via the contact form or email.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and cookies (see section 6).
2. Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To process and deliver your orders and provide support — performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
- To manage your account and sign-in — contract / your consent.
- To meet accounting and tax obligations — legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
- To operate, improve and secure the website — our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- To send marketing only where you have opted in — consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
3. Who we share it with
We share data only as needed with: payment processors (e.g. Stripe), shipping carriers, our hosting and email providers (Microsoft 365), and the identity provider you choose to sign in with (Microsoft or Google). We may disclose data to public authorities where legally required. We do not sell your personal data.
4. International transfers
Some providers may process data outside Norway/the EEA. Where they do, appropriate safeguards (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.
5. How long we keep it
Order and accounting records are retained as required by Norwegian bookkeeping law (generally five years). Account data is kept until you ask us to delete it.
6. Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the shop to function (cart, checkout, login) and, where applicable, for analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, contact info@varibits.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.no).
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page.
Varibits Android app
This section explains how the Varibits Android app (com.varibits.app), provided
by Varibits AS, handles information. The app configures supported physical
Varibits devices over NFC. It does not require an account or a connection to a
Varibits cloud service.
Information used by the app
Device identification, configuration settings and changes you enter are
processed locally on your Android device and exchanged with the nearby Varibits
device when you choose to scan or write. The app does not upload this information
to Varibits servers. It contains no advertising, tracking or analytics SDKs and
does not request internet access.
Saved or imported configuration templates and app preferences are stored
locally. Product information and support articles are bundled for offline use.
Passwords and other fields marked as secret are excluded from saved and exported
configuration templates. Passwords you enter for device configuration are used
to write the settings you select to the physical device.
Sharing and external services
When you choose to export or share a template, you select the destination or
recipient through Android. Exported files can contain device and network
configuration, including names, addresses and other non-secret settings.
Review their contents before sharing. The receiving app or service handles
the exported copy under its own privacy practices.
The app is configured to disable Android automatic backup of app data. Copies
you export to another app, storage provider or recipient are managed separately.
Google Play and Android may process diagnostic information under their own
settings and terms, and Google Play may make crash and reliability reports
available to Varibits. This is separate from the app’s local NFC workflows.
If you open a website or contact Varibits for support, the website and support
provisions of this policy apply to the information you provide.
Retention and deletion
Saved templates remain until you delete them or clear the app’s data. You can
delete individual templates in the template library, or remove local app data
through Android’s app settings. Uninstalling the app removes its local app data.
Exported copies and data held by other apps or recipients must be deleted
separately. Deleting a template or the app does not erase settings already
written to a physical Varibits device.

Varibits iOS app
This section explains how the Varibits iOS app, provided by Varibits AS, handles
information. The app configures supported physical Varibits devices over NFC.
It does not require an account or a connection to a Varibits cloud service.
Information used by the app
Device identification, configuration settings, and changes you enter are
processed on your iPhone and exchanged with the nearby device when you choose
to scan or write. This information is not automatically uploaded to Varibits.
The app contains no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.
Configuration templates you save or import are stored in the app on your
iPhone. Language and appearance preferences are also stored locally. Product
information and support articles are included in the app for offline use.
Wi-Fi, web-login, and MQTT passwords you enter are used to configure the selected
device. Supported devices do not return those password values to the app, and
passwords and other secret values are excluded from saved and exported
configuration templates.
Sharing and other services
Templates are shared only when you choose to export them through services such
as AirDrop, Mail, Messages, or Files. You select the destination or recipients.
Exported files may contain device and network settings. The selected service’s
privacy practices apply to its handling of the exported file.
Depending on your iPhone settings, app data may be included in backups. Apple
may also make app diagnostics or TestFlight feedback available to Varibits under
the applicable Apple settings and terms. These services are separate from the
app’s local NFC and template workflows.
If you open a website or contact Varibits for support, the relevant website and
support provisions of this privacy policy apply to the information you provide.
Retention and your choices
